London is the
greatest city in the world for art, music, clubbing,
theatre, sport, shopping and a host of other activities.
The New Year is finally here and it's about time we
looked forward to 2005 and what it may bring. With that
in mind we've decided to list the major events happening
in London over the first several months of next year
giving you plenty of time to decide what to do about

Tango Al-Fresco
July 5th - 10th
Three outdoor charity tango parties raising money for tree planting
in Regent's Park. Parties take place on July 18th, August 1st and
15th. Classes will be held in advance.
Hampton Court Palace Flower Show
July 1st - August 31st
The world's largest annual flowershow.
Diamonds
July 9th - February 26th 2006
This blockbuster exhibition will showcase some of the world's most
impressive diamonds from stunning historic pieces to the latest in
contemporary designs. Taking place at the Natural History Museum, it
is one of the summer's biggest exhibitions.
Proms in the Park
July 15th -September 10th
Celebrated series of orchestral concerts, semi-staged operas,
specialist groups from the world of early and contemporary music,
chamber orchestras, choral concerts and world music.
Notting Hill Carnival
Aug 29th
Come and join in the fun at Europe's biggest Street Party. Every
year over a million people flock to the streets of Notting Hill to
gaze at the floats, wiggle to the scores of massive sound systems
and soak up the true flavours of the Caribbean.

Mayor's Thames Festival
Sep 17th - 18th Sep
Free programme of arts and river-themed events
on the river itself and its banks, between Blackfriars and Waterloo
Bridges. Events include fireworks, street theatre, shows, sculpture,
art exhibitions, riverside entertainments, children's treasure hunt,
funfair, river events and a torchlit procession.
The London Film Festival
Oct 20th - 4th Nov
As Europe's leading non-competitive film
festival moves into its 48th year, it continues to expand its status
as a key international event. A-List celebrities, award winning
directors, industry moguls and film fans fill London's top cinemas
over sixteen action packed days. A great fortnight for film lovers.
Bonfire Night
5th Nov
Every Autumn we remember the gunpowder plot of
1605, when guy fawkes, a catholic rebel, tried to blow up the house
of parliament and James 1 along with them. Around the country
effigies of this famous traitor are burned on huge fires and
thousands of fireworks released into the sky in a uniquely English
Commemoration of our past.
Trafalgar Square Christmas Tree
1st Dec - 5th Jan
For over a
century Trafalgar Square has been adorned with a majestic Christmas
Tree, an annual gift from the Norwegian nation. This year the lights
of the tree will be switched on at a ceremony attended by the mayor,
ken Livingstone.

Boulez and Barenboim
As part of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's celebration of
Pierre Boulez's 80th birthday, they will perform on two
consecutive evenings. On 3rd April Daniel Barenboim will
conduct Mahler Symphony No.9 and on the 4th Pierre Boulez
will conduct an all-Bartok programme, to include Piano
Concerto No.1 for which Barenboim will be the soloist.
