London City Airport
|
London City Airport (LCY) is situated approximately 6 miles (9.5km)
east of Central London and just 3 miles (4.8km) from Canary Wharf. A single short runway handles
short-haul flights with a strong emphasis on business travel. The airport served 1.6 million
passengers in 2002.There are connections to 20 continental European cities as well eight destinations
in the UK. The airport can be accessed by taxi, bus or Underground/DLR. Its single terminal
incorporates shops, information and taxi desks, a bureau de change and left luggage facility.
London City's one, all-purpose terminal manages to be spacious,
compact and efficient all at the same time. Short check-in times help to create a relaxed
atmosphere. There are not many airport terminals that can offer you a pre or post flight
meal and drink, with table service, and a pleasant view across dockland waters.
The emphasis on attracting business travelers has been re-inforced
by a revamp of the airport's Business Centre which offers a full range of facilities and back-up
services. There are no dedicated business facilities, however, in the airside Departure Lounge.
The terminal is not a shoppers paradise, nor is it intended to go
down that particular commercial route, but the tax and duty free outlets in the Departure Lounge
offer an eclectic choice of goods.
City to Cities, the airport's own glossy magazine, can be picked up
free in the terminal. Like its surroundings it is a confident, well packaged product.

The map shows the destinations presently served from London
City. Details of the airline schedules, and of passenger facilities,
can be found on the Airport's main web site.
The Airport's route development strategy is focussed on those of
the "Top 25" European destinations not already served. The aim is to
secure new routes operated by existing or new quality airlines to
such destinations as Berlin, Milan, Oslo, Stockholm, Lyon, Barcelona
and Madrid. At the same time the Airport is looking for the
development of existing routes with more flights and/or larger
aircraft.

** Operated by Sun Air. Starts 31st October 2005
