Bonfire Night

Every Autumn we remember the gunpowder plot of 1605, when guy fawkes, a catholic rebel, tried to blow up the house of parliament and James 1 along with them. Around the country effigies of this famous traitor are burned on huge fires and thousands of fireworks released into the sky in a uniquely English Commemoration of our past.

Trafalgar Square Christmas Tree
1st Dec - 5th Jan
For over a century Trafalgar Square has been adorned with a majestic Christmas Tree, an annual gift from the Norwegian nation. This year the lights of the tree will be switched on at a ceremony attended by the mayor, ken Livingstone.

3 Apr - 4 Apr	Chicago Symphony Orchestra Tour with Boulez and Barenboim As part of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's celebration of Pierre Boulez's 80th birthday, they will perform on two consecutive evenings. On 3rd April Daniel Barenboim will conduct Mahler Symphony No.9 and on the 4th Pierre Boulez will conduct an all-Bartok programme, to include Piano Concerto No.1 for which Barenboim will be the soloist. 5 May	Beating the Bounds The parish boundaries are beat with willow wands. One of the marks is in mid-Thames where a boy is held by the ankles as he 'whacks' the boundary over the edge of the boat.
